By providing some of the basic scholastic materials to the
orphans we contribute to the full empowerment of orphans. We call upon well wishers who can provide donations and grants for
home based care short term programs to come to the rescue of the orphans. The picture below is a cross section of the orphans
registered with us. Every day orphans are knocking at our doors for any form of assistance. As the term begins we are preparing
to give out school requirements to some to the children. If you have support in cash or in kind please contact us at our offices
in Bugembe, Jinja uganda
These orphans need your love and support. They need to live a good life. They need education,
shelter and clothing. Government has only provided tuition in its arrangement of Universal Primary and Secodary Education.
This alone is not helping orphans who need far more than tuition. They need food, books, clothing, healthcare and good shelter
in order for them to comfortably learn at school. We are grateful to the local community for their support to these children
who are living miserable lives with relatives in squeezed environments with little attention from the relatives who mostly
have no source of income. Together we can uplift the lives of these children. Are you an individual or organisation with a
heart to help? Join hands with us.
Current situation
During 2006, Skills Plus began a program to support a small number of orphans. The Organization gives scholastic materials
like books, pens, clothes, pencils etc. Resources to support this project are solicited from members of the organization and
from well-wishers who feel touched by the situation of the orphans in our communities. This is a continuous process held every
beginning of term in the year.
Due to some improvement in the current activities at the organization, we get some limited resources to buy scholastic
materials to enable our orphans go to school. We are also using these functions to funds raise for more funds to support our
children in schools. We began with nineteen children, girls and boys, although we have registered about 1000 orphans. We are
only giving support to 92 orphans due to the limited resources.
On 28/06/2008, we organized a small party, as a policy, and the guest of honor was Hon. Daudi Migereko, Minister for Energy
and Mineral Development. He thanked the organization for the good work done and he promised to support it such that it can
address the problems of his community. He gave the organization one hundred
thousand shillings only in cash (Shs100,000/=) and the organization used this money to buy scholastic materials for the
orphans. Every beginning of each term, the organization prepares such functions in order to solicit for funds to facility
in getting the scholastic materials and school dues. Currently, the organization reaches 92 children with some small help.
The organization is inviting churches, companies (both private and government), NGOs, CBOs, other donors and all well
wishers to support these orphans because they need help like education, food, shelter, and clothing. The biggest challenge
we have with these orphans is the issue of school fees. However, these orphans are given skills in computer literacy, HIV/AIDS
prevention and so many others to help them support themselves.
We have so many projects but are pending due to the lack of resources.
We have applied for support from donors to take on our orphans for extra support. There is a growing number of orphans
in our database. Registration is ongoing. We invite people to become virtual parents to these orphans and give them support.
Our organization continues to provide educational materials to smaller numbers on a termly basis. Besides we are focusing
on a campaign against HIV/AIDS effects among the children. Volunteers in this area can contact us. We want to build life
skills for the children to empower them to handle the challenges they face as they take full responsibility of their lives.
Our hope is that all the orphans in our register shall each get be facilitated to attend school. Currently educational
support is being given to a few children from their homes where they live with relatives. However, we have discovered that
the orphans have had to share the items we give them with other people in the home who are not orphans.

Moments like this when the orphans assemble to receive items to enable them go back to school are exciting and reassuring.
They feel loved and energized to work hard and maintain themselves at school. On these occasions the orphans describe the
life they are going through and the hope they have through songs. They also say thank you to the people of good hearts who
empathize with them and give them support as shown in the following pictures.
