Background:

Skills Plus, Uganda is registered under the Ministry of Gender and Community Services registration NO. 122101. On 1st October this year, Skills Plus, Uganda makes two (2) years since its inception. From 1st October 2006 when the organization begun, its source of finance was from its members, well-wishers and computer training. The organization had one computer which was used both for training and administration.

The organization began so humbly with financial support from its members and well-wishers. Another source of funding has been the computer training centre. The little fees paid by the computer learners has given the organization a sense of continuity. On its establishment, the pioneer Board of Trustees focused on putting in place necessities required by the organization like putting in place the office, a Computer centre, Tailoring, HIV/AIDS counseling and Training and so many others. However, the organization is facing the problem of limited resources to meet its needs.

Skills Plus, Uganda continues to play a leading role in providing basic Skills that can improve peoples standards of living. Some of the skills and activities that Skills Plus, Uganda provide are; HIV/AIDS sensitization, counseling and Training, Computer training, Tailoring Training, Child Support mainly to the orphans and so many other services. Our quarterly reports, annual reports, newsletters, and brochures, website and our blog, shows the programs which we have reached so far in the organization.

Since last year, the organization has registered some success. The number of clients being served in every department has tremendously increased. If the organization gets more computers, sewing machines, more structures, capacity building for its staff and the organization, funds to support the orphans in schools and capacity building for its staff, it will reach more people in the community. Skills Plus, Uganda services to the community are still low due to lack of enough resources especially funds. Starting this year, the organization is aiming at laying strategies for getting financial and material support from within and outside ( at local, national and international) levels.

The Board members take this opportunity to thank all its stake holders for example Foundation for Sustainable Development ( fsd), the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day saints Humanitarian Services, TASO- Uganda the government of Uganda to mention a few who have enabled it to fulfill some of its aims and objectives.
